Open Question: Leaning Blues harmonica...Q's?

Hello Everyone...I am really interested in harmonica in blues music and have some questions. For example, I never undrestand bending notes. Is bending really necessary? and one more thing from experience, my harmonica playing never sounds like blues songs...(like the ones in eric clapton, little walter, and sounds like someone in subway doing folk songs? any tips?...
